R32 refrigerant

R32 (difluoromethane) is the refrigerant in every RV model. It replaced R410A in much of the air-conditioning and heat pump market because it does the same job with a smaller environmental footprint.

Global warming potential

R32 has a 100-year global warming potential (GWP) of 675, against 2088 for R410A (IPCC Fourth Assessment Report values). Its higher volumetric capacity also means a smaller refrigerant charge moves the same heat, so the CO₂-equivalent of a system is lower still.

Single component

R32 is a pure substance, not a blend. It has no temperature glide, and a leak does not change the composition of what remains, which simplifies service.

Safety class A2L

R32 is classified A2L: low toxicity and lower flammability. Standards such as EN 378 and IEC 60335-2-40 set charge limits and installation rules. In a monobloc heat pump like the RV series, the entire refrigerant circuit is inside the outdoor unit, and only water enters the building.

Regulation

Refrigerant rules differ by market and keep changing. In the EU, Regulation (EU) 2024/573 continues to phase down fluorinated gases and restricts certain equipment types by GWP over the coming years.
